Amaya first started gymnastics at the age of six at Zenith Gymnastics in Charlotte, NC. She followed her coach, Sofia Managadze to Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, NC right before level 5 season and has been there ever since. She started competing level 5 in 2011 where she qualified to the State Championships. She moved up to level 6 for the 2012 season, finishing seventh in the all-around and third on floor exercise at the State Championships. Amaya had a great level 7 season in 2014 where she finished third in the all-around with a 38.275, first on balance beam, second on vault and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing first in the all-around with a 38.625, first on balance beam and second on vault and uneven bars.

As a level 8 gymnast in 2015, Amaya placed first in the all-around with a 38.550, first on balance beam and floor exercise and second on vault and uneven bars. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished eighth in the all-around with a 38.025 and second on vault and uneven bars. Amaya moved up to level 9 in 2016. At the State Championships, she finished first in the all-around with a 37.525 and first on vault and uneven bars. At the Region 8 Championships, Amaya placed third in the all-around with a 37.475 and first on vault. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA where she placed fifth in the all-around with a 37.425, first on balance beam, third on uneven bars and sixth on vault.

Amaya moved up to level 10 for the 2017 season. She placed third in the all-around and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, Amaya finished fourth in the all-around and second on uneven bars. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN where she placed 18th in the all-around with a 37.025, fifth on floor exercise and 12th on uneven bars out of 57 gymnasts. In 2018, Amaya placed third in the all-around with a 37.525 and first on vault, uneven bars and balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished third in the all-around with a 37.950 and first on uneven bars. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Cincinnati, OH, finishing 15th overall with a 37.750, 11th on vault and 14th on uneven bars.

In 2019, Amaya earned gold medals on balance beam and in the all-around with a 38.375 at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished fifth in the all-around and fourth on vault. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN, finishing 12th overall and sixth on uneven bars.

Amaya trains 25 hours per week at Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, NC under coaches Ludmilla Shobe and Sofia Managadze. She will join the University of Missouri gymnastics team during the 2020-2021 School year.
